For our Spring Fayre in April, £465 was raised.   Although not one of our highest totals raised, as the saying goes, ‘every penny counts’.  Thank you again for all the hard work and all the support.

Thank you too to all who worked hard this last month for our churchyard tidy.  These need concerted efforts, as and when, as opposed to more regular work in ones own garden.  Thank you to Clive who regularly cuts the churchyard grass.

The churchyard extension/cemetery grass is cut by Patrick Harmes.   Thank you to the Parish Council for this arrangement.

A new arrival in our churchyard will be at the unveiling of a statue of Jane Austen.

This takes place on June 8th by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire

and to be blessed by the Bishop of Basingstoke.

The statue will be a smaller version of the life size one in Basingstoke Market Square.

Our very warmest thanks to The Friends of Chawton Church who have planned and financed this

project, using the same sculptor as the statue in Basingstoke.

If you are able to help by making a cake/cakes/jams to sell and for refreshments for

Jane Austen Day” (July 14th),

or can nurture some veg or other plants for selling, please will you note this in

your diary or calendar, and deliver on the day.   We should be most grateful.

The Day is one of the church’s main fund raising events.   Apart from cakes and jams etc. to buy there are other stalls and refreshments.   All from 10am til 4.30pm

All this is not purely for those attending ‘the Day’ (ticket holders only), but why not come down and support us and perhaps have some refreshments in the church.       Thank you        hl

A Service of Evensong at 4.45pm concludes the day.  All are welcome to this.
